Welcome to clove dietetics

I offer expert, evidence-based nutritional advice and practical dietary management for those with gastrointestinal (GI), liver and pancreatic disease or dysfunction.

I have specialised in the dietetic management of functional gut and bowel disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, complex IBS, and food intolerance for 17 years and am fully FODMAP trained, using this approach to help support patients for over 12 years. I regularly support patients with liver or pancreatic disease to optimise nutritional status and improve condition related symptoms.

I can also provide advice to those with food hypersensitivity and GI allergy, advise on improving nutritional status before or after surgery, or help to manage gastrointestinal symptoms after cancer treatment.

My advice will be comprehensive, but importantly, tailored to your specific circumstances to be realistic and achievable. Food intolerances will be identified using the only evidenced-based technique – food exclusion followed by structured re-challenge.

about claire

I’m a highly experienced, HCPC registered dietitian living and working in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. I have over 25 years of dietetic experience, 17 of which as a gastro-intestinal (GI) specialist dietitian. I work locally at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, previously leading all GI dietetic out-patient clinical services, including management of our highly successful, nationally recognised IBS and adult coeliac clinics. I now have a lead role for dietetic education and development at the Trust. .

I’m passionate about my work and strive to always help my patients achieve the best outcomes possible. I have received national recognition for my work in developing patient services and am proud to be qualified as a non-medical prescriber.

why work with a dietitian?

Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law, and are governed by an ethical code of conduct to ensure that we always work to the highest standard. This means that you, as patients/clients, are protected and can be assured that you will get the latest credible evidence-based information.

We use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, and translate this into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

Dietitian or Nutritionist?

Services

I accept Consultant and GP referrals, or you are welcome to contact me directly if you have a confirmed diagnosis. I provide expert nutritional advice for adults and older teenagers in the nutritional management of:

  • inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis
  • complex irritable bowel syndrome
  • coeliac disease and non-coeliac gluten intolerance
  • liver diseases including autoimmune liver disease or cirrhosis
  • pancreatic and gall-bladder disorders
  • functional gastro-intestinal disorders, dysmotility disorders
  • constipation or diarrhoea
  • post GI surgery or stoma formation
  • GI symptoms post cancer treatment.
  • allergic GI disorders e.g. oral-allergy syndrome, eosinophilic oesophagitis
  • malabsorption syndromes
  • cyclical vomiting syndrome
  • diverticular disease
  • reflux
  • gastroparesis and rumination syndrome
  • food intolerance including histamine intolerance
  • food hypersensitivities e.g. sulphite, salicylate
  • nutritional support for weight gain and to improve nutritional state
  • healthy eating with GI/liver conditions
  • vegetarian and plant-based diets

My aim will be to work with you to ensure you achieve a nutritionally adequate, varied and balanced dietary intake, whilst empowering you to manage your condition and improve symptoms.
My assessment will be based on your food diary, and our discussion of your diet and lifestyle, along with your medical and symptom history. If needed to support your care, or to ensure we are dealing with the right condition, with your consent I may request your GP or Consultant facilitate blood or stool tests to check for coeliac disease, nutritional deficiency or markers of inflammation.
As there are no evidenced-based, reliable tests for food intolerance, diagnosis of these will be achieved by exclusion followed by reintroduction to determine tolerance level.
